Alessandro Scodeggio graduated as a structural engineer from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 2008. After a short practical experience as a site engineer, he has been enrolled in the master program offered by ROSE School (IUSS, Pavia, Italy) where he finally obtained the M.Sc. in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology in 2011. Involved in the research activities of EUCENTRE (European Centre for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering, Pavia, Italy) since 2009, participating to the structural assessment of the damaged buildings (DR. HOUSE project) in L'Aquila (Italy), after the L'Aquila earthquake in April 2009, within the Italian Civil Protection post-earthquake operations. Furthermore, he has worked as a research engineer for the European project NERA until 2012, investigating the effects of the finite element model updating of buildings using dynamic identification measurements on the definition of fragility functions, under the supervision of Prof. Rui Pinho (EUCENTRE, Pavia, Italy). Since September 2012, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, Greece), working on the seismic behaviour of newly and existing reinforced concrete buildings with irregularities at the ground storey (pilotis), under the supervision of Prof. Christos Zeris. His doctoral studies at NTUA are funded by IKI (State Scholarship Foundation). Along with the Ph.D. studies and in accordance with either the University and the Scholarship Committees, he has interrupted his doctoral studies for a year collaboration with Alga (Milan, Italy), where he was working as a design engineer for the design of bearings and isolators for buildings and bridges.
